Synopsis

A hen escapes from an industrial chicken farm and finds refuge in the courtyard of a dilapidated restaurant on the Greek coast. As she searches for safety, discovers a mate, and struggles to protect her eggs from the restaurant’s greedy owner, the lives of the humans around her gradually come into view. Theft, smuggling, migration, and everyday compromises unfold in the background while the determined bird pursues the simple instinct to create and defend a family. Told from the unusual perspective of its feathered protagonist, the film becomes a tragicomic reflection on motherhood, survival, power, and the often-chaotic behaviour of human beings.

György Pálfi

György Pálfi is a Hungarian director and screenwriter, born in Budapest in 1974. Both films were selected as Hungary’s submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His other works include Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen (2012), Free Fall (2014), His Master’s Voice (2018), and Perpetuity (2021).
