FLIGHT OF THE SPARROWS

Synopsis

Travellers sharing a crowded passenger train pass the time through conversation, stories, arguments, and encounters with strangers. Among them are Guja and Tripona, two men from the margins of society whose contrasting personalities gradually bring them into confrontation. What begins as an almost comic exchange develops into an increasingly physical struggle as tensions inside the carriage rise and the other passengers become spectators to their conflict. Yet behind the aggression and bravado, different aspects of the two men slowly emerge. Set against the social poverty and sharply observed characters of Soviet Georgia, the film transforms a simple train journey into a raw yet compassionate portrait of masculinity, marginalization, violence, and the vulnerability concealed beneath hardened exteriors.
