Synopsis

Several years after fleeing Ukraine following the Russian invasion, a boy living in Poland finds an unexpected way to return home. From his room, he remotely controls a robotic dog that becomes his mechanical avatar, moving through places connected to his childhood. Through a fragile video stream, he revisits memories and reconnects with a world from which war has separated him, while knowing that the connection could disappear at any moment.

Roman Khimei, Yarema Malashchuk

Roman Khimei and Yarema Malashchuk are Ukrainian filmmakers and visual artists based in Kyiv. Both trained as cinematographers at the Institute of Screen Arts and have collaborated since 2013 at the intersection of cinema and contemporary art. Their work examines Ukraine’s recent history, post-imperial structures, war, collective memory, and the ways political forces reshape everyday experience. They received the main PinchukArtCentre Prize in 2020, and their moving-image works have been shown internationally in museums, biennials, and film festivals.
