Synopsis
In the middle of a techno party in Lisbon, immigrant worker Abdul receives a video call from his wife, who is going into labour. He desperately wants to be present for the birth of his son and to recite the traditional Adhan for the newborn, but his work obligations and the urgent needs of a colleague keep pulling him away. Torn between employment, family, faith, and distance, Abdul struggles to become a father from afar.
Sofia Geweiler
Sofia Geweiler is a Russian-German filmmaker, born in St. Petersburg in 1990. She studied documentary directing at VGIK before continuing her filmmaking education through the KinoEyes Joint European Film Masters programme at institutions in Lisbon, Edinburgh, Tallinn, and Dublin. Her work includes the documentaries Given in Exchange and Spirit in Motion and the short films Holly_f3ck and Prayer. Her filmmaking combines social observation with intimate stories of identity, migration, and human relationships.
